Certified trichologist, and hairstylist Sophia Emmanuel has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, and a minor in Computer Applications. In 2001, she graduated with her cosmetology license from Jane Addams Vocational High School. As a hairstylist, Sophia realized that she had to have a thorough understanding of the hair and scalp because many women complained of hair loss. She decided to become a certified trichologist after reading Barry Fletcher’s book titled, Why Are Black Women Losing Their Hair?
Trichology is the science of the hair and scalp, cosmetic chemistry, and life sciences. It encompasses the science of the structure, function and diseases of the human hair and scalp as well as the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases and disorders.
Sophia is IAT Certified Trichologist. “The International Association of Trichologists (IAT) is a non- profit corporation founded in California to promote the study, research and legitimate practice in all aspects of treatment and care of the human hair and scalp in health and disease.” Trichology can be practiced with a valid cosmetology license in New York State but the IAT certification makes Sophia qualified to find the problem and provide the best possible solution.
